Laughing Guys City

Our mission

Our mission and passion is to lead the fight against diabetes through technology that enables new ideas & innovation, promotion of active ways of living and addressing stigma and exclusion around diabetes.

We believe in everyone's right to have quality of life, independent of individual challenges and we promote a healthy lifestyle. Our endgame is to BEAT diabetes and we aim to do so together with companies, organisations and individuals who are as passionate as we are to shape a diabetes free future.

Why we're doing this

Over 400 million people around the world are living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes today. The Nordic region is home to the highest number of people with Type 1 diabetes, an auto-immune disease, per capita in the world.

The increasing number of people living with Type 2 diabetes is associated with lifestyle factors, including obesity, insufficient physical activity and the consumption of unhealthy foods. At the same time, exclusion, stigma and mental health issues are closely connected to both people living with diabetes and those caring for them.

BEAT Diabetes will therefor gather and collaborate with organizations, entrepreneurs and other passionate individuals in three areas - Health Tech, Healthy Lifestyle & Wellbeing and Inclusion & Awareness - to support those living with or affected by diabetes.

Our goals

By focusing on three high-impact areas - Health Tech, Healthy Lifestyles & Wellbeing, and Inclusion & Awareness - we want to use our reach to raise public awareness about diabetes and drive positive change in the whole Nordic region. We aim to do so together with companies, organizations and individuals who are as passionate as we are to shape a diabetes free future.

Peter Jihde

Board Member BEAT Diabetes and TV-host, speaker and journalist

Why is it important for you to be involved in BEAT Diabetes?
Diabetes is a big part of my life and the lives of far too many others. I therefore want more people to understand what it’s like to live with this disease.

What do you want BEAT Diabetes to achieve?
I want BEAT Diabetes to be a unifying force across the Nordic region.

Where will we be in five years?
I hope that everyone in the Nordic region with type 1 diabetes will have an artificial pancreas that adjusts intake of insulin, and that everyone with type 2 diabetics will have a continuous blood glucose monitor.

First commitment in Sweden

Viably Group first committed to the fight against Diabetes in 2017, when they launched the first Diabetes Gala in Sweden to raise funding and awareness levels.

Scale up

The response from the first Diabetes Gala was overwhelming and Viaplay Group scaled up their engagement. A three-episode documentary, called ‘Living without dying’ was produced and followed by an even bigger Diabetes Gala.

Launch of Beat Diabetes

The fight against diabetes continues! On the third Diabetes Gala on World Diabetes Day, 14th of November -19 Viaplay Group launched the initiative Beat Diabetes to which they will invest minimum 2.5M SEK every year.

Registered Foundation

Beat Diabetes Foundation was registered and started to operate as an independent organisation to support those living with or affected by diabetes. We will gather and collaborate with organizations, entrepreneurs, and other passionate individuals in three areas – Health Tech, Healthy Lifestyles & Wellbeing, and Inclusion & Awareness.

Pandemic started

The pandemic was a fact and we needed to re-think our engagement and this year’s Diabetes Gala unfortunately had to be cancelled

Nordic TV-documentary

Living with diabetes as a risk group during a pandemic is tough. We therefor produced and broadcasted a documentary ‘Live without dying – diabetes and the pandemic’ to raise awareness about the disease.

#Imovefordiabetes

The Nordic initiative #Imovefordiabetes was launched by Beat Diabetes with the purpose to raise awareness about the different types of Diabetes and to encourage everyone no matter their individual challenges to a healthy lifestyle.

First Scandinavian Diabetes-Show

We created the first pan-Scandinavian initiative where we replaced the previous Diabetes Gala into a family competition with the goals to collect funding’s for research in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway and to raise awareness in all countries.

Building Bridges

Beat Diabetes sets our three-year strategy which will create more activities and presence in all Nordic countries, everything according to our mission and target.
