A collaboration to increase knowledge about diabetes

Beat Diabetes Foundation and Preparus join forces to educate teachers in Sweden about type-1 and type-2 diabetes. The collaboration aims to increase awareness among teachers about diabetes and how they can support their students with the disease. About 900 children in Sweden are diagnosed with type-1 diabetes every year, which is equivalent to approximately 30 school classes - but there is no cure.

Type-1 and type-2 diabetes are some of the most common chronic diseases globally, affecting millions of people worldwide. It is particularly important to raise awareness about the disease among teachers, as students with type-1 diabetes require extra support to manage their condition at school.

Through this partnership, Beat Diabetes and Preparus will offer a digital lecture for teachers throughout Sweden. The lecture focuses on increasing knowledge about what diabetes is, how it affects students with the disease, and the responsibility teachers have in supporting students with type-1 diabetes. Teachers will also learn how to create a safe and secure school environment for students with diabetes.

"Today, we know that many parents are worried about leaving their children with type-1 diabetes at school, as the responsibility for the disease is very complex, and the ignorance among teachers is significant. With this effort, we hope to increase understanding and knowledge among teachers for increased safety among students and parents," said Peter Jihde, board member of the Beat Diabetes Foundation.

Beat Diabetes and Preparus believe that this collaboration will have a significant positive impact on students with diabetes throughout Sweden by increasing awareness of the disease and ensuring that teachers are better equipped to support students with diabetes.
